Foster Fail Friday

Fostering dogs in need is a very rewarding part of rescue.  There are times when foster families fall in love with their fosters so much that the humans become "foster failures".  This term in the rescue community is an endearing one as it signifies that the dog has a forever home which is the ultimate goal!

One such foster fail is Charlene Signorino; not only did Charlene and her husband fail with one foster but they decided to adopt two of their foster dogs!  Here is their story:

I adopted two Pyrs from the rescue’s director Malise in 2005 and then another one in 2010.  I have fostered several at my horse farm and currently have four Pyr fosters.  In February 2016 we lost our almost 16 year-old Pyr that we adopted from Malise.  Amilea was 9 years old when we adopted her; she was very human-like and the queen of the house!  In December 2016 we lost our Patch who was our grumpy old man.  After Patch passed our Pyr named Hondo seemed depressed.  He had Horner’s syndrome and his health seemed to be declining.  I called Malise to volunteer to foster a dog.  When we drove to Malise’s to pick up a foster dog we saw how many dogs she had so we offered to foster two.  One was Emmy.  My husband could not stop loving on Emmy!  The second dog was Maggie.  My husband loved Maggie to but his connection with Emmy was so obvious that Malise knew when we were walking out the door that my husband would “foster fail” with Emmy.  Maggie was the one I fell in love with due to her personality.  At home the girls fit in very well.  Hondo loved them both and was happy to have them around.  They all played and the girls seemed to know he was ill.  We made the decision to adopt them prior to Hondo passing and they made Hondo’s last weeks very happy ones.

We had fallen in love with them both and they got along so well with our other dogs and cats.  We had only fostered them a month before deciding to make them permanent family members.  My husband had injured his back and required spinal surgery. Emmy laid with him every single day!  Maggie who apparently had always been an outdoor dog has also settled in.  She loves attention and is an incredible addition to our family.

We are very grateful to the fosters, rescues and individuals who transport these amazing dogs!!
